Sweden's space physics research is led by the Swedish Institute of Space Physics (IRF), a government research institute headquartered in Kiruna with additional offices in Umeå, Uppsala, and Lund. Founded in 1957, IRF conducts research spanning space plasma physics, auroral imaging, and instruments flown on international missions including ESA's JUICE and Solar Orbiter.
