SpaceWeatherTracker Data Sources

Every forecast on SpaceWeatherTracker is grounded in trusted scientific data. This page explains where the information you see comes from.

1. Space Weather Data

We rely on trusted space weather monitoring sources โ€” primarily the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) โ€” for solar wind measurements, geomagnetic activity indices (including Kp), and official space weather alerts and warnings.

2. Solar Activity Data

Solar flare classifications, coronal mass ejection (CME) detections, and overall solar activity levels are sourced from published space-weather feeds so the numbers you see on Solar Flares and CME Tracker match what professional forecasters are using.

3. Astronomy Data

Moon phase, illumination percentage, sunrise, sunset, twilight periods, and planet visibility are computed from established astronomical models using your date, time, and coordinates.

4. Weather Data

Local observing conditions such as cloud cover, visibility, and general atmospheric conditions are pulled from public weather providers so you know whether the sky above you is actually clear enough to observe.

5. Geographic Data

Location coordinates โ€” latitude, longitude, and time zones โ€” come from public geographic datasets. Your location is used only to tailor forecasts; see our Privacy Policy.

6. Data Limitations

All forecasts are predictions. Actual viewing conditions can vary significantly due to local weather, atmospheric turbulence and haze, light pollution, and rapidly changing space weather. Use SpaceWeatherTracker as a guide, not a guarantee โ€” and never for operational, navigational, or safety-of-life decisions.
