Plasmapause
The sharp outer boundary of Earth's plasmasphere, marking where the density of cool, co-rotating plasma trapped close to Earth drops off abruptly into the much sparser, hotter plasma of the outer magnetosphere. The plasmapause moves inward and outward depending on geomagnetic activity, contracting closer to Earth during storms as the outer plasmasphere erodes away.
